It was a phenomenal racing season for the ScottRods AA/Gassers and we are sad that it had come to an end. We had a great season with little breakdowns or major accidents and everyone ended up safe and unharmed. The BUGS received more injuries on the track than the racers from broken heels to broken fingers and scuffed up knees! Our biggest fender bender was The Stead’s Speed Shop ’41 Willys but it is being repaired and will be back burning rubber in 2018!
We finished out the year with the Good Guys Nostalgia Nationals at Beech Bend Raceway Park. We had great weather and an awesome time seeing our fans at the track. We had a four-car line-up with Micky Hale in the Warlock taking the #1 Qualifier certificate given by Auto Meter. Ed Kasicki in the Phenomenon took home the Good Vibrations Quick Reaction Time Bonus.
Overall, Brian Spotts holds the 2017 record for the Good Vibrations Quick Reaction Time Bonus, winning the certificate at five races. The most Auto Meter #1 Qualifier certificates were given to Mike Kalinowski who won a total of four times. Our Racer of the Year award goes to Brian Spotts for taking home the most event wins throughout the season. Brian will be presented a replica gas pump of his choice courtesy of our sponsor Ozsome Laser Engraving out of Kinsman, Ohio.
Congratulations to these winners and to all the racers who have made this an exciting experience filled with great memories and a mutual love of nostalgia drag racing. We’ve had our ups and downs throughout the racing season but overall, this was a terrific year. The burn-outs were better than ever and the wheelies and dry hops were spectacular at every event! We truly appreciate all the help from spouses, pit crews, family members, friends and everyone that pitches in and works together to “hurry up and wait”. It truly does take a group effort to keep these cars coming to each event and what a great group it is!
The ScottRods AA/Gassers are honored to be included at some of the best drag racing events in the U.S. and we hope to continue to race together for years to come. We are truly a big family that loves nostalgia racing, the smell of burning rubber, hearing the roar of our engines and meeting our friends and fans at the track! It just doesn’t get any better!! We are looking forward to returning in 2018 for another exciting season of drag racing with a few new races along with some of your old favorites.
Stay tuned for updates throughout the winter of our 2018 events and possible new members. We will continue to post pictures on our Facebook page to keep all our fans excited and ready to cheer us on next year.
The ScottRods AA/Gassers want to thank the many photographers that post our pictures and videos all over the internet, especially on Facebook and Youtube!! We truly appreciate everything they do for the group and they play a huge part in keeping our fans across the U.S. in touch throughout the season. Special thanks to Dawn and Mark Hovsepian for the many pictures and videos over the last few years. Also, a big shout out to the photographers who contributed pictures to this website! Thank you to Wayne Gierke for all the discs you made up and sent to us. Sorry to see you move, but so happy for you! Many thanks to Bob Wenzelburger (who takes more BUG pictures than car pictures) along with Bill Kloss, Rick Lee and Mark Sergison who were all so gracious to provide us with many beautiful photos. AND we cannot forget Glenn Barbis, Jr. for the excellent old-school videos from Keystone Raceway Park!
Finally, we want to send out a huge thank you to our sponsors because without them, all of this would not be possible. Our sincerest appreciation goes out to:
The Cars & Racers are the reason this group was formed, but it takes a lot of people to keep it going and growing! Thanks to every one of you who contribute to keeping the dream of nostalgia drag racing alive through your support of the ScottRods AA/Gassers!
